Pig manure could become a source of electricity in the south of New South Wales under a development application lodged by Energy Australia.
The company plans to build a methane powered plant which will harvest the gas from five large lagoons filled with pig manure near Corowa.
Energy Australia says the plant will produce enough power to run the piggery, as well as 1,500 homes.
It will also stop methane, which is a powerful greenhouse gas, from being released into the atmosphere and prevent odours from the piggery wafting across the Corowa township.
