Iraq, SUVs and Oil Addiction

First, sorry I missed yesterday -- had a near brush with death (actually, it was just a 24-hour stomach bug, but it felt like a near brush with death)...

Alternet has posted a heartfelt open letter to Bill Ford, Jr., from Cindy Sheehan, a co-founder of Gold Star Families for Peace and the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq. While I've been impressed with some moves by Ford such as its new green plant in Michigan, Sheehan is absolutely right that the Ford fleet is a fitting example of our addiction to oil. How many more of our young men and women will have to die before we wake up and see these connections? And, I really cringe at the "Support Our Troops" magnets on SUVs, too -- another fitting symbol of Americans' inability to see the big picture.
