Banking on the Environment

From IWon News via Eco-Portal, news that "ABN AMRO Holding NV (ABN) and Citigroup Inc. (C) are backing a green group's Web site in a move that underlines the growing opportunities such banks are associating with environmental trading." The site, EcosystemMarketplace, bills itself as

...the place where providers and beneficiaries of ecosystem services get together to capture the value associated with ecosystem services. We provide a coordinated and informative platform for users and providers of ecosystem services to meet and communicate. Furthermore, we improve the quality and value of ecosystem transactions by providing up-to-date information, news, and expertise.

It will be very interesting to see if more relationships like this spring up in the wake of the Millennium Ecosystems Assessment.
