Finding a use for useless wood

Came across this piece via Greenbiz.com, and applaud Phil Archuleta for thinking creatively about how to use materials deemed unusable. At the same time, in the process of finishing McDonough and Braungart's Cradle to Cradle (which I'll review/comment upon once finished), and have to wonder if Altree isn't just another example of using cradle-to-grave design methods in a more eco-efficient manner. Wouldn't this process also make both the plastic and the wood unfit for recycling/upcycling into either the natural or industrial flow of materials?
