Treehugging Terrorists...

"...[C]onstitute the single greatest domestic terrorist threat the nation faces today..." Yep, that's the testimony that came out of a hearing of the Senate's Environment and Public Works committee. Forget sleeping Al-Queda cells, forget right-wing nuts like Tim McVeigh, forget the Klan and he-men insecure about their sexuality who play soldier of fortune in Montana and Idaho -- the environmentalists are the ones we have to worry about... And of course, while fringe movements like ALF and ELF have done damage to property (though are not responsible for a single death), Senate philosophe James Inhofe said
...he hoped to examine more closely how the groups might be getting assistance in fund raising and communications from tax-exempt organizations' "mainstream activists" not directly blamed for the violence.

"Just like al-Qaida or any other terrorist organization, ELF and ALF cannot accomplish their goals without money, membership and the media," Inhofe said.
Get it, folks? The real threats to peace, safety and the American way are... you and me. Can you say "Hello, Sen. McCarthy..." Will "green-baiting" be the newest sport of right-wing fear-mongers?

Thanks to Dave at Gristmill for a thorough review of this lunacy.

UPDATE: I'll be damned.. a couple of political blogs (here and here) have even picked up on this...
