See Sustainable Oregon... On a Bike
Apologies for missing you last night... came down with something like a cold on steroids, and didn't want to do anything but crawl into bed... ugh!
Thanks to Vladislav Davidzon for tipping me off to Sustainable Energy in Motion Bike Tours, a series of group rides in Oregon that combine eco-tourism, grassroots democracy, service projects and sustainability education into what sounds like a great time! The idea behind the tours is to get people active: not just physically active, but also active in exploring sustainable living by seeing how others have incorporated permaculture, green building, small-scale economics, sustainable energy and intentional living into their own lifestyles, but also by incorporating these practices into the trip itself. Tours are designed so riders can join in for one, two or three weeks, and beginning cyclists are definitely welcome.
Tour dates for 2007 are available, and registration will begin in early November. I don't know if I mentioned it here, but I bought a bike about a month ago, and am just loving it (flying down a hill is as much fun as it was when I was 8). I'm glad to see these kinds of bike-based travel opportunities are available -- doesn't get much greener!
