Peak Oil Catching On with the Big Political Blogs

While I've bitched and whined some about the lack of environmental coverage on the big political blogs, it is interesting to see that a number of them are taking to the peak oil concept. Kevin Drum had his series of posts at Political Animal, and now Atrios provides an overview of the concept, along with charts. So why do you think peak oil is striking a chord with these folks? Is it more "current" than, say, the energy debate in the Senate? Is it the idea that we may feel its sting more quickly than climate change (although that's arguable -- just ask folks in Florida about hurricanes)? Or, is it that its made it into the mainstream media? Just wondering...
