Joel Makower has got 'em... I have questioned the concept (as Joel must've seen since he alerted me to this post), but I was generally satisfied with explanations I received from a couple of industry representatives. Joel's post does a thorough job of not only further explaining green tags, but also of reviewing several services that allow one to offset the carbon emissions they produce by driving, and even pointing to several high-profile purchasers of green tags (I think Pearl Jam did this also on one of their tours). With their credibility established, I have to agree that green tags seem like a great tool to jump-start the renewable energy market. For those of us who live in locations that simply don't offer green power without costly home rennovations, green tags put green energy (or at least its benefits) within reach.
