Dirty Air and National Security
It's been all over the wires and blogosphere that the Department of Defense (with support of their lackies in the White House) is seeking yet another waiver of environmental laws, but PK's headline ("If we drink clean water, the terrorists win") gets my nod for most clever take on the issue. It's really interesting to see the rift developing on the right over environmental and sustainability issues: on one hand, the economic conservatives and even the neo-conservatives seem to be coming to a realization of the need to address environmental woes, even labeling them as national security issues; on the other hand, the military seems to believe that dumping toxins wherever it pleases is essential to our defense. While I must admit to a certain amount of childish glee in seeing such developments, let's not kid ourselves to the power the military wing holds...
