Small Company, Big Ideas

From Bombay's Financial Express, an essay on corporate philanthropy from the chair of the Godrej Group. I found this interesting not only because of the company's numerous efforts on the environmental front (including a Green Business Center in Hyderabad), but because it demonstrates the vast potential out there for triple-bottom-line thinking and action. The efforts also have positive human resources and public relations values:
Our employees have also been enthusiastic participants in bolstering the group’s philanthropic efforts. In addition, most group companies work closely on the development of villages near their manufacturing facilities. It is common for our companies to ‘adopt’ co-located villages and work on projects such as schools and healthcare.
