Are out and the New York Times notes that the US ranks 45th. That puts us behind not only the perennially sustainable (Northern Europe), but also such luminaries as Botswana and the kingdon of Bhutan. As Mother Jones notes on its blog, the study did have some flaws (Russia ranked higher than it should have), but even with those flaws, it's amazing the US ranked as high as it did with our government's current anti-environmental jihad... Let me bang this drum a little more loudly: sustainability is good for both the environment and the economy... Which part of that can't our leaders comprehend??
