How Important is State of Fear?

I certainly enjoyed the movie The Day After Tomorrow, but would never cite it as proof of the dangers of climate change. Will critics of the science of global warming be as circumspect with Michael Crichton's new novel State of Fear? Media Matter for America has an interesting analysis up of a recent 20/20 piece by John Stossel that "used a report [on Crichton's novel] to promote Crichton's view that global warming is "just another foolish media-hyped scare." MMA's report goes on to review some of the scientific literature on global warming, something Stossel failed to do in his own report.

For the more scientifically adept, RealClimate has a post up detailing the evidence that recent climate change has been caused by human activity. Way too technical for this English professor, but the blog promises a version for us poor laypeople...
